About Ana Ortiz

Ana Ortiz is a Madrid-born contemporary mixed media artist living and working in the UK. Drawing inspiration from the ocean, coastal landscapes, light and contemporary architecture, her work captures the energy, movement and atmosphere of the natural world through expressive abstraction.

With a background in architecture and engineering, Ana graduated as a Technical Architect before completing a Master’s degree in Building Engineering at the European University of Madrid. She later gained a teaching qualification from the University of Alcalá and moved to England in 2012, where she worked as a Design and Technology educator before pursuing her passion for art professionally.

In 2018, Ana launched her independent career as a mixed media artist, combining her architectural sensibility with an experimental approach to materials and techniques. Working with acrylics, inks and other contemporary mediums, she explores the balance between structure and spontaneity, creating richly textured compositions that invite the viewer to experience the beauty, depth and movement of the sea. Her work brings together abstraction, colour and light to create a sense of calm, escapism and connection with nature, while her architectural influences inspire a parallel exploration of minimalist spaces, infinity pools and the relationship between buildings and their natural surroundings.

Since launching her artistic career, Ana has held several solo exhibitions and gained gallery representation across the UK and Europe. Her work was featured in the 2023 publication What Inspires Art? and selected for the curated Pantone Colour of the Year 2024 showcase at the Affordable Art Fair Battersea. In 2025, she was also included in the Invest in Her collection at the Affordable Art Fair Hampstead and exhibited independently with her own stand at Manchester Art Fair, further establishing her presence within the contemporary art scene.

Alongside her studio practice, Ana is developing her own gallery venture, Marhaus Gallery, with a vision of bringing together a carefully curated selection of contemporary artists and making original art more accessible to collectors. In January 2027, she will take this next step by exhibiting as both an artist and a gallery at Fresh Art Fair, Alexandra Palace, London.

Through her paintings, Ana invites collectors to bring a sense of the coast into their homes: a moment of light, a memory of the sea, or a feeling of escape captured in an original work of art.
